The project seeks to create a balance between pastoralism, agriculture and mining in the Karamoja Region and create a situation where none of those particular economic activities takes precedence over another. It seeks to secure and protect Karamojong customary communal lands and agro-pastoral livelihoods, while promoting best practice in the governance of mineral resource development in the region.
The project will have an extensive capacity building component aimed at local governments in the 7 districts of Karamoja; mineral-host community leaders; NGO fraternity and artisanal and small scale miners to give them skills, knowledge, tools and exposure in the management of competing interests of agriculture, pastoralism and mining.
