The Africa Centre for Energy and Mineral Policy (ACEMP) is a not for profit organization founded in 2012 under the laws of Uganda and duly registered with the National NGO Bureau. ACEMP is an Extractive Industries Policy, Research and Advocacy Think Tank and a Centre of Excellence promoting good governance, research, capacity building, equity, socio-economic justice and shared benefits in the development and exploitation of energy and mineral resources in Uganda.
To be a center of Excellence in research, policy advocacy and skills development in the energy and mineral sectors
To Promote the sustainable development of the energy and mineral sectors in Africa
Our current strategic plan (2017-2023) seeks to “Transform Uganda’s Extractive Resource Wealth into Inclusive and Sustainable Economic and Social Development.” In tackling challenges in the extractives sector, we are guided by our desire to contribute to Uganda’s 2040 Vision of “a transformed Ugandan society from a peasant to a modern and prosperous country.” We also recognize Uganda’s periodic National Development Plans that, among others, have prioritized the petroleum and mineral sectors as key drivers of Vision 2040. Complimentary to those national strategies, ACEMP’s approach is to ensure that our work is aligned to those national strategies and ultimately contributes to Uganda’s attainment of at least 11 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. We focus on working with communities living in or around resource-rich areas, facilitating and building relations between government, the mining industry and host communities. Core ACEMP technical staff have undergone career development courses addressing aspects of regional development and sustainable mineral development in resource rich countries including Australia, Ghana, Ethiopia, USA, Hungary, France and South Africa which has exposed them to international best practices in mineral and petroleum development.
